New Yamaha concept — XTW250 Ryoku

At the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, Yamaha presented their newest concept, the XTW250 Ryoku. The Ryoku means strength or power in English. It’s got a large fuel tank, and the belly pan protector can be removed and used as a shovel. Looks kinda Tonkaesque, but I like the TW200. I wonder if it will come to market.

Video & translation below courtesy of Diginfo.tv

Ikuo Ishizuka, Senior Engineer, Motorcycle Design Group, Yamaha Motor, introduced the XTW250 Ryoku. “This model is called XTW250 RYOKU. We propose that this concept bike could make touring and outdoor leisure even more enjoyable in Japan. The engine and main frame are based on our TRICKER and SEROW 250 models, and the rest of the bike includes a lot of custom designs.”

“One feature of this model is, it can carry a big tank or camping equipment. We also propose using it as a 100 V power supply. We think it would be fun to use 100 V appliances at a camp site. So the idea is, this bike can be used as a generator while it’s parked. That’s why it has this fan, similar to that of an air-cooled engine.”

” We’ve also provided a big rear carrier. This is for touring with camping equipment. A lot of different combinations are possible, for example, if you remove the tandem seat, you can attach a large carrier. Another fun thing about this bike is, it has an engine guard for off-roading, and when you reach your destination, the engine guard converts into the head of a shovel. You can take the guard off, attach the handle, and use it as a shovel. This bike has all kinds of interesting features like that.”

“Our intention with this model is to suggest even more ways of enjoying motorcycles. A bike can be more than just a means of getting somewhere, but also a way to have fun when you arrive.”

Renaissance Man – Matt Wadsworth

In the world of 17th-century lute music, Matthew Wadsworth is a star. But few of his listeners would guess his other passion: jumping motorcycles.

That’s because Matt is blind.

The documentary begins with Matt and his coach, Micky Dymond, somewhere out in the desert. They’re looking for something — that much we know.

Semper Ride

Semper Ride is a partnership of the United States Marine Corps, Strategic Action Solutions and One Eyed Bird Entertainment. The project was created in response to the increasing number of motorcycle fatalities and accidents by Marines. Drawing from experiences from their popular motorcycle-based television show, The Great Ride Open, producer/director Dirk Collins, along with producers Jim Conway and Jeff Tilton, created Semper Ride as a state of the art, high definition, big screen action that promotes a responsible riding theme. The ongoing campaign combines the film with events, a website, public service announcements and local and regional programs. Since first premiering in 2009 at MCAS Miramar, Semper Ride has been seen by thousands of Marines is proud of its role in decreasing Marine motorcycle fatalities by 44%.

This site is an excellent resource that shows Marine PPE and training requirements. It’s well thought out, and I wish every military branch had a site like this.

Here’s a Youtube link to the full Semper Ride movie, all in low-def glory. If I find it in hi-def, I’ll let you know.

TANSKY TITAN Hare Scramble

The Titan 2011 from Jolly Roger Ranch on Vimeo.

Racers navigated the new course through the rain forest of west coast Vancouver Island, BC. The riders were worked hard at this, the first ever, Tansky TITAN race.
“Tansky” is the name of the old logging road main line that branched out into the hills above Jordan River, BC. The whole piece of public property (1000 Ha) is covered in second and third growth forest and criss-crossed with streams and brooks leading down from picturesque marshes. “Tansky Main-Line” itself, had almost disappeared and grown over when the Victoria Motor-Cycle club re-discovered it.

Jumping 100 feet on a motorcycle – Blind

Matt Wadsworth Day One from TJ Laury on Vimeo.

Matt Wadsworth is a successful internet marketer and an international musician, is from the UK, and spends time in London and Montreal, Canada. He’s preparing for a world record attempt to jump a motorcycle 100 feet, and he just happens to be blind. Mickey Diamond, 2-time motocross champion and supermoto champion is supporting and training Matt for the jump. Mickey is convinced that it is possible. Matt’s not looking to show off, but to inspire people. He knows it’s possible, and is working on the tools and techniques he’s going to need.

Matt says on his blog, “Well, as one of my old mentors told me about 20 years ago, “If you don’t try, you don’t know,” and this is the way I do things folks.” He’s even given scuba diving a try!
